Barbecued Meatballs

Ingredients
  

Meatballs

  • 13 ounces evaporated milk
  • 3 pounds ground chuck
  • 2 cups oatmeal quick cooking
  • 1 cup chopped onion
  • ½ teaspoon garlic powder
  • 2 teaspoons salt
  • ½ teaspoon pepper
  • 2 teaspoons chili powder
  • 2 eggs

Sauce

  • 2 cups ketchup
  • 1 ½ cups brown sugar
  • 2 tablespoons liquid smoke hickory
  • ¼ teaspoon garlic powder
  • ½ cup chopped onion

Instructions
 

  • Mix all the meatball ingredients together and shape into balls.
  • Place balls in a flat pan (cookie sheet) in a single layer.
  • Mix sauce ingredients together and pour over meatballs.
  • Bake at 350°F for 1 hour.

Notes

We frequently make 1.5 times the sauce recipe to have extra sauce on the meatballs, especially if making ahead and serving from a crockpot.
If using a crockpot, we put a spoonful of sauce over each meatball before cooking, and save the rest of the sauce for later.  Refrigerate cooked meatballs until ready to serve.  When ready to serve, put meatballs and extra sauce into crockpot and heat.
