Mother's Oatmeal Cookies

- ½ cup shortening
- ½ cup brown sugar
- ½ cup granulated sugar
- 1 egg beaten
- 1 Tbs water
- ½ tsp vanilla
- ¾ cup flour sifted
- ½ tsp baking soda
- ½ tsp salt
- 1 ½ cups chocolate chips
- 1 cup peanuts (optional in place of chocolate chips)
- 1 ½ cups oats
Cream shortening; add sugar and cream well. Beat in egg until fluffy.
Add water and vanilla.
Sift flour, baking soda and salt together; add to creamed mixture.
Add rolled oats and chocolate chips (or peanuts).
Drop from a teaspoon onto greased baking sheet. Bake at 375o for 12 minutes.
