Mother's Oatmeal Cookies

Ingredients
  

  • ½ cup shortening
  • ½ cup brown sugar
  • ½ cup granulated sugar
  • 1 egg beaten
  • 1 Tbs water
  • ½ tsp vanilla
  • ¾ cup flour sifted
  • ½ tsp baking soda
  • ½ tsp salt
  • 1 ½ cups chocolate chips
  • 1 cup peanuts (optional in place of chocolate chips)
  • 1 ½ cups oats

Instructions
 

  • Cream shortening; add sugar and cream well. Beat in egg until fluffy.
  • Add water and vanilla.
  • Sift flour, baking soda and salt together; add to creamed mixture.
  • Add rolled oats and chocolate chips (or peanuts).
  • Drop from a teaspoon onto greased baking sheet. Bake at 375o for 12 minutes.
