Apple Dumplings #1
This recipe came from a co-worker of Sue's.
Ingredients
- 2 cups sugar
- 2 cups water
- ¼ tsp cinnamon
- ¼ tsp nutmeg
- ¼ cup butter
- 2 cups flour
- 1 tsp salt
- 2 tsp baking powder
- ¾ cup shortening
- ½ cup milk
- Sliced apples
Instructions
- Bring to boil the sugar, water, cinnamon, nutmeg and butter. Set aside.
- Sift together the flour, salt and baking powder. Cut in the shortening; then add milk. Mix well. Roll on floured surface. Cut into approximately 6 squares.
- In each square place sliced apples, sprinkle a little sugar and cinnamon mixture on apple slices and pinch tops together.
- Place apart in lightly greased 9x13-inch pan and pour syrup over all.
- Bake at 375° about an hour or until dough is golden brown.
Notes
You may slice extra apples between the dumplings for extra flavor.
