Apple Dumplings #1

Ingredients
  

  • 2 cups sugar
  • 2 cups water
  • ¼ tsp cinnamon
  • ¼ tsp nutmeg
  • ¼ cup butter
  • 2 cups flour
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 2 tsp baking powder
  • ¾ cup shortening
  • ½ cup milk
  • Sliced apples

Instructions
 

  • Bring to boil the sugar, water, cinnamon, nutmeg and butter. Set aside.
  • Sift together the flour, salt and baking powder. Cut in the shortening; then add milk. Mix well. Roll on floured surface. Cut into approximately 6 squares.
  • In each square place sliced apples, sprinkle a little sugar and cinnamon mixture on apple slices and pinch tops together.
  • Place apart in lightly greased 9x13-inch pan and pour syrup over all.
  • Bake at 375° about an hour or until dough is golden brown.

Notes

You may slice extra apples between the dumplings for extra flavor.
