Bring to boil the sugar, water, cinnamon, nutmeg and butter. Set aside.
Sift together the flour, salt and baking powder. Cut in the shortening; then add milk. Mix well. Roll on floured surface. Cut into approximately 6 squares.
In each square place sliced apples, sprinkle a little sugar and cinnamon mixture on apple slices and pinch tops together.
Place apart in lightly greased 9x13-inch pan and pour syrup over all.
Bake at 375° about an hour or until dough is golden brown.
Notes
You may slice extra apples between the dumplings for extra flavor.
