Apple Dumplings #2
Ingredients
Crust
- 2 cups flour
- 1 tsp salt
- ⅔ cup shortening
- 4 Tbs water
Syrup
- 1 cup sugar
- 2 cups water
- 3 Tbs butter
- ¼ tsp cinnamon
Instructions
- Boil syrup ingredients together for 3 minutes, set aside. Combine pastry ingredients. Roll out pastry about 1/8-inch thick and cut into 7-inch squares. Pare and core a medium-sized, tart apple for each dumpling. Place each apple on a square of pastry and fill core cavity with sugar, dash of cinnamon and a dot of butter. Bring opposite points of pastry up over the apple, overlap, moisten and seal.
- Place dumplings in glass baking dish and pour hot syrup around them. Bake uncovered in 425° oven for 40-45 minutes.
- Serve warm with the syrup and whipped cream.
