Ingredients 

Crust

  • 2 cups flour
  • 1 tsp salt
  • cup shortening
  • 4 Tbs water

Syrup

  • 1 cup sugar
  • 2 cups water
  • 3 Tbs butter
  • ¼ tsp cinnamon

Instructions

  • Boil syrup ingredients together for 3 minutes, set aside. Combine pastry ingredients. Roll out pastry about 1/8-inch thick and cut into 7-inch squares. Pare and core a medium-sized, tart apple for each dumpling. Place each apple on a square of pastry and fill core cavity with sugar, dash of cinnamon and a dot of butter. Bring opposite points of pastry up over the apple, overlap, moisten and seal.
  • Place dumplings in glass baking dish and pour hot syrup around them. Bake uncovered in 425° oven for 40-45 minutes.
  • Serve warm with the syrup and whipped cream.
