Chocolate (Texas) Sheet Cake
Ingredients
- 1 cup water
- 4 Tbs cocoa
- 2 sticks margarine
- 2 cups flour
- 2 cups sugar
- 1 tsp baking soda
- ¼ tsp salt
- ½ cup buttermilk
- 2 eggs
- 1 tsp vanilla
Icing
- 1 stick margarine
- 4 Tbs cocoa
- 6 Tbs buttermilk
- 1 lb powdered sugar
- 1 tsp vanilla
- nuts (as desired)
Instructions
- Bring to boil the water, cocoa and oleo.
- Combine the flour, sugar, baking soda and salt.
- Pour cocoa and butter mixture over dry ingredients. Mix well.
- Add buttermilk, eggs and vanilla. Mix well and pour in large sheet pan (Cookie sheet pan).
- Bake at 375° for 20 to 25 minutes.
- Use icing recipe which follows, and top the cake while hot.
Icing:
- Bring to boil margarine, cocoa and buttermilk. Add powdered sugar, vanilla, and nuts.
