Chocolate (Texas) Sheet Cake

Ingredients 

  • 1 cup water
  • 4 Tbs cocoa
  • 2 sticks margarine
  • 2 cups flour
  • 2 cups sugar
  • 1 tsp baking soda
  • ¼ tsp salt
  • ½ cup buttermilk
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 tsp vanilla

Icing

  • 1 stick margarine
  • 4 Tbs cocoa
  • 6 Tbs buttermilk
  • 1 lb powdered sugar
  • 1 tsp vanilla
  • nuts (as desired)

Instructions

  • Bring to boil the water, cocoa and oleo.
  • Combine the flour, sugar, baking soda and salt.
  • Pour cocoa and butter mixture over dry ingredients. Mix well.
  • Add buttermilk, eggs and vanilla. Mix well and pour in large sheet pan (Cookie sheet pan).
  • Bake at 375° for 20 to 25 minutes.
  • Use icing recipe which follows, and top the cake while hot.

Icing:

  • Bring to boil margarine, cocoa and buttermilk. Add powdered sugar, vanilla, and nuts.
