Maraschino Cherry Cake
Ingredients
- 2 ¼ cups sifted flour
- 3 tsp baking powder
- ½ tsp salt
- 1 ⅓ cups sugar
- ½ cup shortening
- ½ cup chopped walnuts
- ½ cup milk
- ¼ cup maraschino cherry juice
- 16 maraschino cherries cut in eighths
- 4 unbeaten egg whites
Instructions
- Sift together flour, baking powder, salt and sugar.
- Add shortening, cherry juice, cherries and milk. Beat 2 minutes.
- Fold in nuts. Pour in two round 8 inch wax paper lined cake pans. Bake in moderate oven 30 to 35 minutes, 350°.
- Use powdered sugar icing.
