Ingredients 

  • 1 cup dates chopped
  • 1 tsp baking soda
  • 2 Tbs shortening or margarine
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1 cup flour
  • 1 tsp vanilla
  • ½ cup nuts chopped

Instructions

  • Combine dates, baking soda and shortening or margarine.
  • Add 1 cup hot water to mixture, and let cool.
  • Add remaining ingredients and mix well.
  • Bake at 350° oven about 30 minutes. Serve with whipped cream.

Notes

We use to have this at every Christmas gathering. Don't know why we stopped. I remember Don Stovall hated it.
