I remember grandma making this candy just before Christmas.  It tasted like heaven.  She also made a variation where she added chocolate chips just before pouring it into the pan, and swirling the chocolate into the divinity.

Ingredients 

  • 4 cups sugar
  • 1 cup light corn syrup
  • 1 cup water
  • 3 egg whites
  • 1 cup nuts optional

Instructions

  • Mix first three ingredients. Heat to soft ball stage.
  • Beat egg whites to stiff peak.
  • Slowly pour one half of sugar mixture (at soft ball stage) over the egg whites.
  • Cook remaining sugar to hard ball stage.
  • Pour over egg mixture and beat until thick.
  • Add nuts.
  • Pour onto platter and let cool.
