Ingredients 

  • ¾ cup shortening
  • cup sugar
  • 3 eggs
  • ¾ cup dark molasses
  • 2 ¾ cups flour
  • 1 tsp baking soda
  • 1 tsp cinnamon
  • ½ tsp nutmeg
  • ½ tsp cloves
  • ¾ tsp salt
  • 1 cup milk

Instructions

  • Cream together shortening and sugar.
  • Add eggs, one at a time, beating after each addition.
  • Add molasses.
  • Sift together flour, baking soda, cinnamon, nutmeg, cloves and salt; add alternately with milk to creamed mixture. Bake in moderate oven 350°
