- ¾ cup shortening
- ⅔ cup sugar
- 3 eggs
- ¾ cup dark molasses
- 2 ¾ cups flour
- 1 tsp baking soda
- 1 tsp cinnamon
- ½ tsp nutmeg
- ½ tsp cloves
- ¾ tsp salt
- 1 cup milk
Cream together shortening and sugar.
Add eggs, one at a time, beating after each addition.
Add molasses.
Sift together flour, baking soda, cinnamon, nutmeg, cloves and salt; add alternately with milk to creamed mixture. Bake in moderate oven 350°
